Comparison of Results with Theory and Experiment

The results obtained for the standing waves were compared with the theoretical values. Good agreement was found in all cases where the theory was applicable. The frequency results were found to be typically within 1% of the predicted values while the damping parameter was found to be about 4% different. The velocities were found to be in good agreement with the theoretical predictions, differing typically by only a few percent. The progressive waves were also compared with experimental results. Qualitatively the results matched well. The vertical velocities were found to compare well quantitatively; a quantitative comparison of the horizontal velocities was not possible due to variations in the experimental results; the horizontal velocities were of a similar magnitude.
