Density Profile

Wave (a) has a density profile

equation6887

where tex2html_wrap_inline17311 kgm tex2html_wrap_inline17313 , tex2html_wrap_inline17315 and l, the interface thickness, is 0.0192m. Away from the interface the asymptotical densities are tex2html_wrap_inline15645 = 998 kgm tex2html_wrap_inline17313 and tex2html_wrap_inline15647 = 1090 kgm tex2html_wrap_inline17313 . The potential density can be considered as being the same as the fluid density here. Wave (b) has tex2html_wrap_inline12111 which gives an interface width of tex2html_wrap_inline17329 10lu. In the upper fluid the density is proportional to tex2html_wrap_inline15539 and in the lower fluid it is proportional to tex2html_wrap_inline15541 . In the interface region we expect the density to vary in a smooth manner, similar to that shown in figure 4-6 for the order parameter. Away from the interface the ratio of the potential densities is tex2html_wrap_inline17335 .
